Under the coalition government, former business secretary Vince Cable announced in July 2014 that as a measure to improve the transparency and access to business information, all Companies House documents were to become available to download at no cost to users. Currently, most documents are £1 to download.

Following the election, I was keen to see if this intended policy was likely to come to fruition, particularly as we now have a new business secretary in Sajid Javid. Early indications suggest that this will come into force, as the government is testing a trial service for users to download documents.

There is no requirement to ‘sign up’, and it is not through the traditional Companies House website, but at the following site – https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/
